Process-Based Model Prediction of Coastal Dune Erosion through Parametric Calibration

چکیده
Coastal dunes are important morphological features for both ecosystems and coastal hazard mitigation. Because understanding predicting dune erosion phenomena is very important, various numerical models have been developed to improve the accuracy. In present study, a process-based model (XBeachX) was tested calibrated accuracy of simulation from storm event by adjusting coefficients in comparing it with large-scale experimental data. The breaker slope coefficient predict cross-shore wave transformation more accurately. To prediction profile, related skewness asymmetry were adjusted. Moreover, bermslope performance near face. Model assessed based on model-data comparisons. XBeachX successfully predicted phenomena. addition, results obtained other two similar experiments same set matched well observed profile However, underwater sand bar evolution remains challenge.

Process-based Modeling of Coastal Dune Development
A model that predicts sediment transport due to wind action can be valuable addition to hydrodynamic models to describe the long-term interaction between land and water. This thesis presents the application of an aeolian transport model [Sauermann et al., 2001, Kroy et al., 2002] as a tool for the evolution of coastal nourishments and dunes. The model was originally developed to describe import...
متن کاملThe role of bathymetry, wave obliquity and coastal curvature in dune erosion prediction
Low lying coastal areas have always been attractive for people to live, but are also prone to flooding. In The Netherlands, half of the population lives in the coastal area below mean sea level where two-thirds of the economic value is located. Coastal dunes protect the hinterland from flooding as a primary sea defence along the major part of the Dutch coastline. The envisaged protection level ...
متن کاملA Parametric Cathment Erosion Model
The structural framework for a parametric catchment erosion model is proposed. A parameter optimization technique that provides a rational basis for the calibration of the model is developed. The adequacy of the model in representing a natural catchment is investigated.
متن کاملReducing Uncertainty in Prediction of Dune Erosion during Extreme Conditions
Coastal dunes protect low lying coastal areas against the sea. Extreme waves and water levels during severe storms may cause breaching of the dunes. Consequently, serious damage due to flooding and direct wave attack could occur, resulting in loss of life and property. Proper coastal management implies that reinforcement measures will be taken if the actual safety level does not meet the agreed...
متن کاملTrampling Effects on Coastal Dune
Long-term human trampling on coastal dune vegetation was analysed using eight 100 × 100m study areas ranging in trampling intensity JJ'om little or no past trampling pressure to severe trampling pressure. All trampling levels significantly reduced species diversity. Total vegetation cover was significantly reduced only in areas with severe and heavy trampling pressure. Where long-term moderate ...
